All over our country raingardens are catching on – landscaped areas planted with native vegetation that allow infiltration and uptake of rain water, directed to the garden from rooftops, parking areas or other hard surfaces. The rain garden fills with a few inches of water after a storm and the water slowly filters into the ground rather than running off to a storm drain. Raingardens reduce runoff and pollutants that otherwise run to the storm sewer and streams, they allow for additional groundwater recharge and water your native landscaping so you don't have to!
